US GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL
The US Green Building Council is the only balanced non-profit, consensus,
coalition of the building industry, promoting the understanding, development,
and accelerated implementation of "Green Building" policies, programs,
technologies, standards and design practices. Since its formation in 1993,
the Council has filled a vital need in the US building industry, becoming
the center for debate and action on environmental issues facing the industry's
multiple interests. The Council's membership is comprised of leading and
visionary representation from all segments of the building industry including
product manufacturers, environmental groups, building owners, building
professionals, utilities, city governments, research institutions, professional
societies and universities. This representation provides a unique integrated
platform for carrying out important programs and activities.
The LEED Green Building Rating System is a program based on accepted
energy and environmental principles and strikes a balance between known
effective practices and emerging concepts.
