RICHARD P. PERRY, P.ENG.

Richard Perry is well known in the Architectural and Engineering fields having been in Consulting Engineering in these disciplines since 1952. His background in engineering as the Senior Mechanical Partner with Phillips, Barratt & Partners (later PBK Engineering) covers a diverse field which includes design and supervision of construction on a wide variety of residential, commercial, institutional and industrial projects typical of which is the Vancouver International Airport. His background in computers goes back to 1974 when he purchased his first desktop unit. Since that time he has developed with the industry. He purchased his first Computer Drafting package in 1981 and used this package exclusively for all of his design and drafting work until 1986 when he changed to a desktop system using AutoCAD.

Mr. Perry became interested in GREEN BUILDING technology in 1985 when he was commissioned by the Canadian Department of Energy, Mines and Resources to do a study of projects in all fields, Residential, Commercial and Industrial, to determine whether they could benefit by instigating their own Energy Conservation Program. The project lasted for two years and covered over 1500 buildings and plants in British Columbia and was instrumental in saving substantial amounts of energy in the Province.

The progression to the complete Green Building concept followed, with several studies that culminated in 1998 with membership in the US Green Building Council and retrofit of three hotels to meet the requirements of the LEED Green Building Rating System. The latest project is the subject picture of our home page, one of the projects being used to evaluate the LEED System.
